Half-day workshop:
Monitoring project success through time and money

Presented by: Prof. John D. Gilleard , HKIE, IFMA Fellow

Synopsis : All project managers need to be able to track and control their
projects. To do this they have traditionally used a variety of project
management techniques, coupled to intuitive judgment in the operation of
their work. The use of computer based network tools such as Critical Path
Analysis and Precedence Diagramming are now common and it is therefore
a relatively simple task to review target schedules against actual schedules.
Hence project managers are often confident they can accurately predict whether
milestones can be met or if the project will finish on time. However, they may be
uncertain as to whether the project is under or ahead of budget. To do this they
should use the project management tool of ‘measured earned value'.

Learning outcomes: This workshop on ‘measured earned value' will:

•  Provide a better understanding of the relationship between budget
costs of work scheduled, budget cost of work performed and the actual
cost of work performed

•  Apply ‘measured earned value' to determine project success in terms
of both time and money

This will be achieved by:

•  Giving an overview of project management using Gantt Charts
and Networking tools

•  Reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of time only project
planning techniques

•  Introducing the concept of ‘measured earned value'

•  Conducting case study exercises to demonstrate how ‘measured
earned value' works

•  Examining software tools to better facilitate ‘measured earned value'

Target audience : Facility management administrators and facility / property
management professionals concerned with office relocation and move management.
